4 Effective ways to promote your business | For startups and SMEs

Are you a startup company or an SME (small-to-medium enterprise) wishing to promote your products or services and grow your customer base?

Here are some basic marketing activities to consider:

1)  Create a website. Inform your audience about your company’s offering. Provide details of your products and services, explain their uniqueness and how these are better than anything else in the market. Also, don’t forget to let people know where to find you and how to contact you.

2)  Set up social media accounts. Social media is free or low cost advertising. Paid advertising on social media is relatively cheap, depending on the channel, and enables you to reach a wide audience. When making a post, beware to use the right hashtags so that people who are not your followers can discover your content.

3)  Create content. Creating impactful content is very important in order to get the response you desire. Here are some questions you should always ask yourself before proceeding with any new creative: ‘How is this information useful for my audience?, What do I want people to do after seeing this? Call? Send an email? Click to make an order?’ Have a clear message and call to action! Produce various types of content for your promotion i.e. articles, videos, images, infographics, webinars, whitepapers, how-to guides etc. Make every piece of it unique and with value to the reader.

4)  Stay in touch with your clients. Upon approval of your clients, collect their contact details and consumer preferences. This way, you can keep them informed on products, offers or news of their interest, encouraging them for further purchases. Store your customer data in a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system. Using a CRM system makes it easy to manage your list even when it grows very big. Additionally and very importantly, CRM systems help to keep customer data secure and protected.
